Figs 4 View FIGURES 1 – 4. 1 , 18–19 View FIGURES 13 – 19 .

Type material. Holotype ♀, KENYA: Rift Valley Prov., Timboroa Forest (compt. 9), 00˚04.092′N, 35˚30.909′E, 2628 m, Malaise traps, indigenous Afromontane forest, 14–16.iv.2011 (A.H. & M.K. Kirk-Spriggs), BMSA (D)31858 ( NMKE).

Paratype, 1♀. KENYA: same data as holotype, except: BMSA (D)31859 ( BMSA).

Diagnosis. A species with an Anthomyia -like pattern on the notum and the hind tibia without posterodorsal seta. Morphologically similar to H. lucida (Stein, 1913) and H. fasciata (Jaennicke, 1867) . The female of H. lucida has no dark presutural maculae or vittae, the postsutural dark fascia reaching only to the anterior postsutural intraalar and hind tibia with 3 anterodorsals. The female of H. fasciata has a scutal pattern similar to the new species, but is reduced, i. e., the dark markings are smaller and less bold and palpi yellow with brown tips.

Description. General colouration. Head with ground colour black; ocellar triangle with weak grey pruinosity; fronto-orbital plate and face silvery pruinose; gena grey; lunule yellow, silvery pruinose (viewed from certain angles); antenna and arista dark brown; palpus dark brown; setae on ventral edge of occiput golden; thorax brown, with grey pruinosity; notum with an Anthomyia -like pattern, as in Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 4. 1 ; postpronotum yellow, pleura with some yellow areas as in middle of anepisternum; anterior spiracle creamy; calypters white; haltere yellow; wing hyaline; legs yellow; apex of femora brown; tarsi brown; abdomen brown, with grey pruinosity and yellow lateral areas on all tergites; syntergite 1 + 2 with 2 dark marks on hind-margin, tergites 3 and 4 each with pair of large quadrate black maculae; tergite 5 with dark median vitta.

♀. Measurements. Body length: 6.5 mm; wing length: 6.3 mm.

Head. Eye bare; frons at level of anterior ocellus ca. ⅓ head-width; fronto-orbital plate with a few setulae in ventral ½, separate from row of setae; 3–4 pairs of inclinate frontal setae; 2 pairs of reclinate orbitals; medial and lateral vertical seta long, lateral seta ½ as long as medial seta; ocellar setae long; antenna inserted just above midlevel of eye; postpedicel ca. 2 × length of pedicel; arista long-plumose, the longest combined plumosity equal to length of postpedicel; palpus slightly flattened.

Thorax. Dorsocentrals 2 + 3; acrostichals 0 + 1; 2 postpronotals; 1 presutural and 2 postsutural intra-alars; 1 presutural and 1 postsutural supra-alars; prealar very long and strong; 2 postalars; notopleuron with 2 setae, the posterior slightly shorter than anterior, with a few setulae near anterior seta; anepisternum with series of 6 long setae, and a strong setula in dorsal anterior corner; katepisternals 1 + 2. Scutellum with 1 long basal and 1 long apical pair of setae, similar in length; margins and ventral surface bare.

Legs. Fore femur with rows of posteroventral, posterior and posterodorsal setae; fore tibia without median seta, with posteroventral, posterior and dorsal apical setae; mid femur with 1 submedian and 2 preapical anterodorsal setae; anteroventral surface bare, but posteroventral surface with 3 fine setae in basal ½; 3 dorsal to posterior preapical setae; mid tibia with 2 posterodorsal setae in median ⅓, but no anterodorsals; apical seta on anterodorsal, anteroventral and ventral surfaces, the latter long and strong; hind femur with complete row of anterodorsal setae and dorsal and posterodorsal preapical setae; anteroventral surface with 3–5 fine, well-spaced setae and 1 posteroventral before middle; hind tibia with 1 anterodorsal and 1 anteroventral in median ⅓, the latter shorter, without posterodorsals; anterodorsal and dorsal preapicals, and anteroventral apical seta.

Wing. Veins bare; veins R4+5 and M parallel at wing-tip; costal spine short, but distinct; lower calypter large, ca. 2 × length of upper calypter.

Abdomen. Tergites 3–5 with 1–2 pairs of lateral marginal setae, plus discal row; sternite 1 bare.

Terminalia . Ovipositor and spermathecae as in Fig. 18 View FIGURES 13 – 19 ; egg as in Fig. 19 View FIGURES 13 – 19 .

♂ Unknown.

Distribution. Kenya (Rift Valley province).

Etymology. The species is dedicated to Márcia Manfrini and Pedro Fernandes, and is a latinized noun in the genitive plural.
