Genus Chaetoniphargus View in CoL gen. nov.
Diagnosis of genus (female only). Body rather inflated in the middle, lateral cephalic lobes short, eyes absent. Antennae 1 longer than 2, accessory flagellum consisting of one article; labrum well developed; labium with well developed narrow inner lobes, mandibular molar bluntly conical; left incisor with 4 teeth, lacinia mobilis strong, with 4 teeth; right mandible with toothed molar (4 teeth), lacinia mobilis not observed. Mandibular palpus vestigial, consisting of one article. Maxilla 1 inner plate small, outer plate with numerous serrate flattened spines; palpus vestigial, consisting of one article. Maxilla 2 outer plate larger than inner one, both plates with reduced number of distal setae. Maxilliped: inner plate narrow, outer plate short and strong, palpus 4-articulated, article 4 with distal nail. Coxa 4 unlobed posteriorly, coxa 5 nearly as large as coxa 4. Gnathopods 1–2 weak, propodus subtrapezoid, with dactylus bearing one median seta at outer margin.
Pereopods 3–7 with strong dactylus provided with one spine at inner margin. Pereopods 5–7 articles 4–6 with bunches of long setae and single spines. Pleopods with segmented subequal rami. Urosome dorsally naked, uropods 1–2 biramous. Uropod 3 very short, inner ramus scale-like, outer ramus consisting of one short article bearing distal spines. Telson very short, much broader than long, incised in the middle, each lobe with one small short distal seta. Coxal gills occur on legs 2–6; gill on gnathopod 2 and pereopod 4 long and narrow, coxal gill on pereopod 3 very large, ovoid. Oostegites occur on pereopods 2–5.
Males unknown
Typus generis. Chaetoniphargus lubuskensis , sp. nov. (monotypy).
Derivatio nominis. The name Chaetoniphargus alludes to the body of Niphargus provided with some setae (chaetae).
