TYPE:— CHINA. Hainan: Wuzhishan, Wuzhi Shan, 1922-05-01, F. A. McClure 2834 (i.e. Canton Christian College 9391) (syntype: PNH, destroyed, A 00073211 image!) .

McClure 9391 was the only gathering cited in the protologue of the name Sonerila hainanensis Merr. ( Merrill, 1923) . However, the collecting number on the label of the syntype specimen exists in A is 2834, while its herbarium number is Canton Christian College Herbarium 9391. Thus, the collecting number cited in the protologue is to be corrected.
