Remarks. This species was originally described in the iriartei group from Panama by Wirth & Blanton (1959). Posteriorly, Wirth (1974) included it in the subgenus Diphaomyia Vargas. Five very similar species belonging to this subgenus inhabits in Mexico: Culicoides baueri Hoffman , C. blantoni Vargas & Wirth , C. haematopotus Malloch , C. iriartei Fox and C. tzotzil sp. nov. Culicoides evansi can be distinguished by the characteristics included in the key.

Material examined. Mexico, Morelos, Cuautla , 27-sept-1937, A. Dampf, light trap, Mexican Fauna No. 162. female (slide mounted, CAIM). First record from Mexico .

Distribution. Mexico (Morelos), Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia.
