Types: Syntypes: (several) ZMB 290 (1) (Eschmeyer et al., online); Kottelat (1987:50) has ZMB 290 as holotype.
Type locality: coast of middle Peru; market at Valparaíso, Chile. Illustrations: Béarez & Jiménez Prado, 2003:109, fig. 6; Kuiter, 2004:123.
D: XI, 17 or 18. A: III, 8 or 9. P: 20. C: 17 (9 + 8). GR: 20 (7 + 13). LL: 60 to 62.
Distribution: eastern South Pacific: off Ecuador, Peru, and Chile.
