Hypoplectrodes cardinalis View in CoL is a replacement name for Hypoplectrodes ruber (Allen, 1976) , a junior secondary homonym of Scopularia rubra de Buen, 1959, a junior synonym of Hypoplectrodes semicinctum View in CoL (see Anderson &Heemstra, 1989:1016).
Holotype: WAM P25314–003, 71.0 mm SL.
Type locality: Western Australia off Beacon Island , Wallabi Group , Houtman Abrolhos Islands in 3 to 4 meters. Illustrations : Allen , 1976, fig. 1; Allen & Randall, 1990, fig. 1; Kuiter, 2004:118, figs. A–C (top of page).
