Tydeus californicus Baker and Wharton, 1952: 192 ; Fleschner and Arakawa, 1953:1092; Baker, 1970:174. Tetranychoides californicus Banks, 1904: 54 .

Female (n = 3). Dimensions: length of idiosoma 325 339 (325–365) and width 233 240 (220–265).

Dorsum ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 A)—Prodorsum recurved, 12 pairs of dorsal setae, trichobothrium whip-like, smooth, slightly longer than setae. Striation type “ Tydeus ” ( Kaźmierski 1998b). Five pairs of setae on opisthosoma spatulate (f1, f2, h1, h2 and ps1), other setae lanceolate, slightly serrated. Setal measurements as follows: ro 21 22 (21–23), la 25 24 (22–25), bo 33 34 (33–35), ex 25 25 (25), c 1 30 26 (23–30), c 2 25 25 (23–25), d 1 30 27 (25–30), e 1 25 25 (25–26), f1 2 3 25 (23–25), f 2 25 25, h 1 25 27 (25–28), h 2 25 25, ps 1 23 24 (23–25). Body entirely striate.

Venter ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 B)—Anogenital area with six pairs of genital, four pairs of aggenital and ps 2 in anal region 24 24 (23–24). Epimeral formula: 3-1-4-2.

Gnathosoma - Setal pattern of palp (tarsus –genu): 5-2-2, tarsus with seta p' ζ broadened and tapering distally. Cheliceral stilettos length 20 20; length of palp 65 62 (57–65).

Legs ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 C–D)—Length of legs I–IV as follows: leg I 175 171 (168–175), leg II 148 143 (140–148), leg III 148 142 (138–148) and leg IV 180 166 (158–180). All legs with two claws and a hairy empodium, empodial hooks absent. Solenidion (ωI) on tarsus I short, slender, shorter than half width of tarsus. Tarsus I with ft' subequal to ft'' in length. Leg setal formulae as follows (tarsus—trochanter): Leg I: 8 (1ω)-3-3-3-1; Leg II: 6-2-2-2-0; Leg III: 5-2-1- 1-1; Leg IV: 5-2-1-1-0.

Male: Not found.

Material examined. Brazil: One female collected from Vitis vinifera, Pinot Noir, Candiota County , State of Rio Grande do Sul, 14/IV/2007. Two females from Boqueirão do Leão County, Cabernet Sauvignon ( Vitis vinifera ) and Bordeaux ( Vitis labrusca ) varieties, State of Rio Grande do Sul, 16/III/2006, coll. Diehl, M. and Horn, T.B. Deposited at Museu de Ciências Naturais, UNIVATES - Centro Universitário, Lajeado, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil.

Distribution. In Brazil, this species was already reported on rubber trees in the state of São Paulo (Hernandes & Feres 2006) and this is the first report from the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
