Holotype. HNHM /16956. Moist oak forest at Mah Parviz in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, Iran, 30°37'14''N, 51°39'0''E. Leg. R. Latif, 29.03.2010.

Paratypes. HNHM /16957, 1 ex. ZUTC 1134, 3 ex., locality and date same as that of the holotype.

Derivatio nominis. The new species is named in honour of Dr. Masoumeh Malek (University of Tehran) who initiated the current earthworm research in Iran.

Diagnosis. Length 94–107 mm, diameter 4 mm, setae closely paired. Colour alive dark red-violet, conserved pale. First dorsal pore in 3/4. Clitellum on 27, 28–41, 42, tubercles on 37, 38–41. Male pore on 15, surrounded by glandular crescents. Nephridial pores irregularly alternated between setal line b and above d. Two pairs of vesicles in 11, 12; spermathecae two pairs in 9/10–10/11, open near d. Calciferous glands in 11–12 with small diverticulum in 12. Hearts in segments 7–11. Nephridial bladders simple, sausage-shaped. Longitudinal musculature pinnate.

External characters. Holotype 94 mm long and 4 mm wide. Number of segments 219. Paratypes 100–104 mm long and 4 mm wide. Number of segments 214–227. Colour dark red-violet especially dorsally in alive specimens, bleached out to pale in preserved specimens. Prostomium epilobous 1/2 opened. First dorsal pore at intersegmental furrow 3/4. Setae closely paired. Setal arrangement behind clitellum: aa: ab: bc: cd: dd = 11:1.5:8.5:1:34 ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3. E A). Male pores on segment 15, surrounded by glandular crescents, protruding into the neighbouring segments. Nephridial pores irregularly alternated between setal line b and above d. Clitellum on segments 27, 28–41, 42. Tubercula pubertatis on segments 37, 38–41. Glandular tumescence on segments 11, 12, 16–18, 24, 26, 29, 32, 35–42 ab ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3. E B).

Internal characters. Septa 5/6–14/15 thickened, 6/7–10/11 strongly thickened. Testes and funnels paired in segments 10–11, covered with perioesophageal testis sac in 11. Two pairs of seminal vesicles in 11, 12. Spermathecae two pairs in 9/10, 10/11 with external openings near setal line d. Calciferous glands in segment 11–12 with small diverticulum in 12. Paired hearts appear in segments 7–11, with a pair of small extraoesophageal vessels in 12. Nephridial bladders simple, sausage-shaped. Crop in segments 15–16, and gizzard in segments 17–18. Typhlosolis large, anchor-shaped. Longitudinal musculature is of pinnate type.

Remarks. E. malekae sp. nov. is similar to E. muganiensis in the position of the clitellum however differs from it in the number of seminal vesicles and the more backward stretching tubercles (Table 1).
