Solenopsis geminata (Fabricius, 1804)
status

Solenopsis geminata (Fabricius, 1804) *

Distribution in North Carolina: Coastal Plain. County: HO (material examined).

Distribution in surrounding states: GA ( Trager 1991, Ipser et al. 2004) and SC ( Davies 2009).

The status of this species regarding its origin is still uncertain. Here we consider S. geminata as native but strong suspicion on a possible introduction also exist ( Trager 1991). Our decision here should not be perceived as definitive.

Solenopsis globularia (Smith, F. 1858) (rarely collected species)

Distribution in North Carolina: Coastal Plain. Counties: BR and CR (in literature).

Distribution in surrounding states: SC ( Davies 2009).
