- Helochares (Helochares) lividus (Forster, 1771) View in CoL

Walker (1871) reported the occurrence of H. lividus in Egypt as Philhydrus lividus (Forster) , and there appear to be no recent published records. According to Hebauer (1997), records from Egypt are doubtful and need confirmation. The species is common in southern Europe, North Africa ( Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia), and Asia ( Syria and Turkey), which seems to be the eastern limit ( Hansen 1982, 1999; Fikáček et al. 2015).

- Helochares (Hydrobaticus) aethiopicus Orchymont, 1939

Hebauer (1997) reported the occurrence of H. aethiopicus in Egypt. Hebauer (1996) mentioned within his studied material of H. aethiopicus of Ethiopia “ Cairo, El Maadi 20.11.199 3 Bernhardt (CHD) ”. We believe that this is undoubtedly an error in the manuscript, where “ Cairo, El Maadi ” are outside the Ethiopian territory and located in Egypt. The species is Afrotropical, occuring only in Ethiopia ( Hansen 1999; Hebauer 2006).

- Helochares (Hydrobaticus) melanophthalmus ( Mulsant, 1844) View in CoL

Helochares melanophthalmus View in CoL was reported in Egypt by many authors ( Kuwert 1890a; Sahlberg 1903b, 1913; Andres 1913a, b; Orchymont 1927; Chiesa 1967; Alfieri 1976; Salman 1996; Hebauer 1994, 1997). According to Orchymont (1936c), Hansen (1999), and Hebauer (2006), H. melanophthalmus View in CoL is a Sudanese species, and the previous record from Egypt by Kuwert (1890a) belongs to H. mentinotus View in CoL . The latter species has frequently been confused with the very similar and closely allied H. melanophthalmus ( Hebauer 1994) View in CoL .

- Coelostoma (Lachnocoelostoma) horni (Régimbart, 1902) View in CoL

Hebauer (1997) reported a doubtful record of C. horni from Egypt. The species is mainly distributed in the Oriental and Afrotropical region and absent from North African countries ( Hansen 1999; Hebauer 2006; Fikáček et al. 2015).

- Coelostoma (Lachnocoelostoma) transcaspicum Reitter, 1906

Hebauer (1997) reported a doubtful record of C. transcaspicum from Egypt. The species is absent from Africa and distributed throughout the Palearctic region (Asia) ( Hansen 1999; Hebauer 2006).
