Diagnosis

Frontal vitta dark brown with golden yellow pollinosity; length of postpedicel 2.5 times the length of pedicel; arista with short pubescence, rays shorter than width of base of arista; scutum with five brown vittae, median vitta expanded from base to apex of scutellum, dorsocentral vitta reaching the basal scutellar setae; calypter whitish; wing faintly brownish, with apical third, between C vein and apical half of vein R 2+3 darkened; haltere yellow; sternite 5 wide, with two concave, elongate and sclerotized plates, plates bearing strongly developed setae.

Description

Male holotype. Body length 2.7 mm; wing length 2.7 mm.

Head. Eye with sparse setulae. Frontal vitta dark brown with golden yellow pollinosity. Interocular space 0.4 mm. Four pairs of fr, with intercalated setulae between them, one pair of fr more developed than the others. Orb two pairs, anterior pair lateroclinate, posterior pair reclinate. Ocellar tubercle grey with yellow pollinosity; oc proclinate and developed, surrounded with setulae; ocellar tubercle with one pair of weakly developed setae in addition to oc. Poc parallel. Fronto-orbital plate, parafacial and gena with golden yellow pollinosity. Parafacial with short setae on dorsal half. Lunula not exposed. Scape brown, pollinose and with a seta reaching pedicel. Pedicel brown with apical margin yellowish. Postpedicel dark brown with golden yellow pollinosity, length 2.5 times that of pedicel. Arista brown, with short pubescence, rays shorter than width of base of arista. Palpus dark brown and claviform.

Thorax. Greyish with golden pollinosity; scutum grey with faint golden yellow pollinosity, five brown vittae following acr, dc, and intra-alar rows, median vitta expanded from base to apex of scutellum; dc vittae expanded to basal scutellar setae. Acr 2–3:3–4, in irregular rows. Dc 2:3. Postpronotum with two developed setae and one weak seta, postpronotal area without setulae. Pra two, both well developed. Proepimeral setae two, seta closest to spiracle longer, second seta with hooked apex, proepimeron without setulae. Katepisternal setae 1:1, with a weaker seta between them, area with short setulae. Prebasal scutellar seta present, setulae present.

Wing. Faintly brownish, with apical third, between C vein and apical half of vein R 2+3 darkened. Calypter whitish with yellowish margin. Haltere yellowish.

Legs. Coxae brownish, femora dark brown; trochanters on a surface, apex of femora and tibiae yellow; mid tibia occasionally with brown vitta on median third, hind tibia with brown vitta on basal third; tarsi dark brown with yellowish pulvilli. Fore femur on av surface with a row of short setae; pd surface with a row of long setae that increase in size from base to apical third; p surface with a row of setae shorter than pd setae; pv surface with a row of long setae on apical half; v surface on basal third with short setae. Fore tibia on d surface with a pre-apical seta; ad surface without setae; av surface with a developed apical seta; pv surface with an apical seta; v surface with an apical seta; pd surface with a pre-apical seta. Fore first tarsomere with long and strong basal setae on v surface. Mid femur on av surface with a row of sparse setae, setae shorter and closer together on apical half; ad surface with a row of setae on median third and three pre-apical setae; pv surface with a differentiated basal seta, with three or four irregular rows of setae from basal third to apex, with apex hooked and forming a ctenidium, ventral rows with shorter setae; faces p and pd with four differentiated pre-apical setae. Mid tibia on v surface with two developed apical setae, one long and one short; a surface with a developed apical seta; ad surface with a submedian developed seta and a short pre-apical seta; av surface with a short apical seta; v surface densely setulose; pd surface with a short pre-apical seta; p surface with a median seta and a short pre-apical seta; pv surface with a developed apical seta; d surface with a developed pre-apical seta. Hind coxa setulose on posterior margin. Hind femur on ad surface with a row of developed sparse setae; av surface with a row of short setae, on apical third with two developed setae; v surface on basal half setulose; d surface with one developed seta on apical third; pd surface with a differentiated seta on apical third. Hind tibia on d surface with a median seta and a pre-apical seta; a surface with a short pre-apical seta; ad surface with a median seta at the level of d median seta, and a pre-apical seta; av surface with a median seta and a developed apical seta; pv surface with a developed apical seta. Hind tarsus missing.

Abdomen. Tergites brownish with grey pollinosity; marginal lateral setae differentiated and developed. Tergites 3–5 with a pair of lateral basal developed setae. Sternite 1 bare. Sternite 5 ( Figure 2G View Figure 2 ): large, with two sclerotized, concave and elongated plates, with strongly developed setae along plates. Terminalia ( Figures 3G View Figure 3 , 4G View Figure 4 ): epandrium longer than wide, with long and sparse setae; surstylus articulated with epandrium, narrow apically and with sparse and short setae on apical half; cercal plate elongated and setulose. Hypandrium and associated structures as in Figure 5G View Figure 5 .

Biological notes

According to collecting label data this is found in the forest and is associated with decomposing organic matter such as fish.

Comments

On the holotype some structures are missing: the fore right, mid and hind legs, the tarsi on the mid and hind legs on the left side and the second presutural dorsocentral setae.
