Sphex micans Eversmann 1849: 368 . Syntypes: Russia: lower Volga area (ZIN), synonymized with Sphex viduatus by Kohl 1890: 332.

Sphex pollens Kohl 1885a: 186 . Syntypes: Ƥ, Greece: Athens (NHMW).

Sphex leuconotus F. Morawitz 1890: 579 , nom. praeocc., nec Sphex leuconotus Brullé 1833 . Lectotype, designated here: Ƥ, Turkmenistan: Ashgabat (Transcaspia) (ZIN), examined. New synonymy.

Sphex platynotus Matsumura 1912: 177 . Syntypes: Ƥ, Japan: Okinawa: no specific locality (depository unknown), synonymized with Sphex viduatus by Yasumatsu 1935: 36.

Sphex perezi Berland 1926: 170 . Lectotype, designated by Menke in Bohart & Menke 1976: 134: Ƥ, Senegal: no specific locality (MNHN), synonymized with Prionyx viduatus View in CoL by Guichard 1988: 121.

Remark. The lectotype of Sphex leuconotus F. Morawitz was collected by General Alexander V. Komarov and donated to Ferdinand F. Morawitz.
