DIAGNOSIS. This species ( Figs. 32–34 View FIGURES 32–42 ) is recognized by the small size, the long labium extending well beyond the hind coxae, the pale antennal segment I with a broad black band at base, the black clypeus, the overall rosy red pronotum and scutellum, the bluish-red hemelytra, and the contrasting pale legs, without spots.

Agaveocoris roseus runs to couplet 9 with A. distanti . It differs from A. distant by the distinct dark markings on the vertex and frons, the strongly infuscated calli, the rosy-red scutellum, the brown hemelytra strongly tinged with rosy red, and the more elongate, curved apical process of the right paramere.

DESCRIPTION. Male: (n = 5; holotype measurements in parentheses): Length from apex of head to cuneal fracture 2.14–2.62 mm (2.46 mm); length from apex of head to apex of membrane 3.23–3.84 mm (3.58 mm); widest point across hemelytra 1.50–1.60 mm (1.65 mm). Head: Width across eyes 0.94–0.99 mm (0.99 mm); interocular width 0.56–0.62 mm (0.59 mm). Labium: Length 1.47–1.54 mm (1.55 mm). Antenna: Segment I length 0.38–0.40 mm (0.40 mm); II, 0.56–0.62 mm (0.61 mm); III, 0.50–0.54 mm (0.50 mm); IV, 0.46–0.58 mm (0.48 mm). Pronotum: Median length 0.56–0.61 mm (0.59 mm); posterior width 1.20–1.31 mm (1.26 mm).

Macropterous, small, elongate oval. COLORATION. Head: Yellowish brown, vertex with two short, narrow, transverse lines, frons with two parallel rows of broad dark lines, sometimes coalescing into a more solid thick line on either side of middle; clypeus and base of labrum dark brown to black. Labium: Yellowish brown, apex of segment IV darker brown. Antenna: Segment I yellowish brown, with a broad, subbasal band and narrow apex dark brown to black; segments II-IV uniformly yellowish brown. Pronotum: Yellowish brown to dark brown on disc, strongly tinged with rosy red, especially around and between calli; calli black. Mesoscutum and scutellum: Rosy red to reddish orange. Hemelytron: Corium rosy red; clavus, costal marging, and cuneus brown to dark brown; membrane smoky brown, veins dark brown. Ventral surface: Propleura rosy red, mesosternal area shiny black, remainder of thorax and abdomen brown. Legs: Uniformly pale yellowish brown; femora with a few tiny, mostly indistinct brown spots; distal tarsomeres and claws darker brown. STRUCTURE, SURFACE, AND VESTITURE. As in generic description.

Male genitalia: Endosoma as in generic description. Left paramere ( Fig. 89 View FIGURES 80–93 ) small, C-shaped. Right paramere ( Fig. 90 View FIGURES 80–93 ) elongate, slender, and C-shaped, with a pointed to rounded apex.

Female (n = 5): Length from apex of head to cuneal fracture 2.34–2.46 mm, length from apex of head to apex of membrane 3.36–3.78 mm, widest point across hemelytra 1.44–1.50 mm. Head: Width across eyes 0.94–0.98 mm; interocular width 0.56–0.61 mm. Labium: Length 1.52–1.63 mm. Antenna: Segment I length 0.37–0.40 mm; II, 0.53–0.56 mm; III, 0.48–0.53 mm; IV, 0.50–0.53 mm. Pronotum: Median length 0.48–0.53 mm; posterior width 1.14–1.25 mm.

Similar to male in size, shape, and coloration. Genitalia as in generic description.

ETYMOLOGY. The specific epithet “roseus” is given to denote the overall rosy-red coloration of this species.

HOSTS. Agave sp. and Agave victoriae-reginae T. Moore. Non- Agave records are considered incidental.
