The genus Claraeola has only lately been analyzed and redefined by Skevington & Yeates (2001) and found to be synonymous with Congomyia Hardy, 1949 and Moriparia Kozánek & Kwon, 1991 . These authors also provide a thorough diagnosis of the genus and figure parts of various species. In addition, Skevington (2002) recently revised the Australian members of the genus.
