Osbornellus bifurcatus Domínguez & Godoy View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs. 20a–20e)

Description. Length: 6.5–7.0 mm. Member of the O. auronitens group ( Fig. 1a) General description as in O. eberhardi .

Male genitalia: Pygofer more than twice as long as greatest width, very produced posteriorly, narrow and rounded at apex; with long macrosetae dispersed along distal third ( Fig. 20a). Valve oval, wide, triangular in the middle. Plates long, pointed at apex and with filamentous setae ( Fig. 20b). Style with apophysis long and truncate ( Fig. 20c). Aedeagus in ventral view wide at base and irregular; shaft straight, tapered, shorter than ventral processes, truncate at apex ( Fig. 20d). Ventral processes arising near the base, diverging, tapered, apices pointed, directed outward. In lateral view shaft truncate, slightly curved dorsad, straight, tapered; dorsal projection truncate. Gonopore apical. Ventral processes separated from shaft, apices pointed dorsad ( Fig. 20e).

Diagnosis. Very similar to O. quirosae in appearance, but in ventral view the aedeagus of O. bifurcatus has the ventral processes separated near the base, with the apices directed outward. In O. quirosae the ventral processes are straight, parallel-sided, with the apices straight.

Distribution. Known only from Costa Rica; 1950–2800 m.

Etymology. This species is named for the bifurcate processes of the aedeagus.
