Tambocerus zahniseri View in CoL sp. nov.

Figs 11–12 View FIGURES 1–12 , 95–101 View FIGURES 95–101 .

Ochraceous sparingly speckled with brown on head thorax and forewings; basal triangles on scutum fuscous.

Head as wide as pronotum. Vertex 2.6 times as wide between eyes as median length. Fore tibia with dorsal setal formula unknown as the tibiae are missing.

Male genitalia. Pygofer more or less of uniform height in anterior 0.33 then narrowed rather abruptly being narrowest at midlength, posterior margin strongly serrate, dentate. Subgenital plates with apical prolongation, submarginal uniseriate macrosetae and marginal hair-like setae. Style with apical lobe broad, apophysis moderately thick, tapering distally. Connective with stem 1.4 times as long as arms. Aedeagus with well developed dorsal apodeme, shaft dorsally directed slightly arcuate, of uniform width in lateral view, in posterior view laterally serrated in distal half.

Female. Unknown.

Measurements. Male 6.7 mm long, 1.65 mm wide across eyes.

Material examined. HOLOTYPE ♂, INDIA: Karnataka: Bangalore 916 m, at light, 26.x.1982, C.A. Viraktamath Coll. ( UASB).

Remarks. T. zahniseri resembles externally T. nilgiris , but has a few brown speckles on the forewing. The new species can be readily recognized by the structure of the male pygofer, which is strongly narrowed at midlength and then prolonged into a narrow strip ending in dentate processes caudally.

Etymology. The species is named after Dr J. Zahniser, University of Illinois, U.S.A. in recognition of his work on Cicadellidae .
