DESCRIPTION OF MASSILIA RIVULI SP. NOV.

Massilia rivuli (ri’vu.li. L. gen. masc. n. rivuli , isolated from a rivulet).

Cells are Gram-stain-negative, facultative anaerobic, rod-shaped, motile with a flagellum, 2.3–3.7 µm long and 1.0–1.2 µm wide. Colonies are creamy and concave with a wrinkled margin. Growth occurs at 10–37 °C (optimum, 24 °C), pH 4.5–9.5 (optimum, pH 7.0) and <0.5% NaCl (w/v; optimum, 0%). Positive for oxidase, catalase, urease and nitrate reduction, but negative for H 2 S production, phenylalanine deaminase, VP test, methyl red test and indole production. Hydrolyses Tweens (20, 40, 60 and 80), gelatin, casein and starch, but not aesculin. Utilizes maltose monohydrate, sucrose, L-arabinose, trehalose dihydrate, starch, glycerol, sodium pyruvate, sodium acetate anhydrous and L-aspartic acid, but not lactose monohydrate, D-glucose, D-fructose, mannitol,D-sorbitol, L-glutamic acid,L-valine, glycine, L-proline,L-serine, sodium oxalate, sodium formate dihydrate or disodium fumarate. Negative for esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), lipase (C14), cystine arylamidase, trypsin, α -chymotrypsin, β -galactosidase, β -glucuronidase, β -glucosidase, N -acetyl- β -glucosaminidase, α -mannosidase and α -fucosidase; positive for alkaline phosphatase, leucine arylamidase, valine arylamidase, acid phosphatase, naphthol- AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, α -galactosidase and α -glucosidase. The major fatty acids are C 16:1 ω 7 c, C 16:0 and C 12:0. The polar lipids include phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and one unidentified phospholipid. The G+C content of genomic DNA is 62.8%.

The type strain, FT92WT (=GDMCC 1.1682 T =KACC 21474 T), was isolated from a subtropical stream in PR China. The GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession numbers for the 16S rRNA gene sequence and the draft genome of strain FT92WT are MN548381 View Materials and WKJJ00000000 , respectively.
