DESCRIPTION OF DUGANELLA GUANGZHOUENSIS SP. NOV.

Duganella guangzhouensis (guang.zhou.en’sis. N.L. fem. n. guangzhouensis pertaining to Guangzhou, a city of southern China, where the type strain was isolated).

Cells are Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, facultative anaerobic, rod-shaped, motile with several flagella, 1.3–2.3 µm long and 0.7–0.8 µm wide. Colonies are creamy and concave with a wrinkled margin. Growth occurs at 10–30 °C (optimum, 24 °C), pH 4.5–9.5 (optimum, pH 7.0) and 0–0.5% NaCl (w/v; optimum, 0%). Positive for oxidase, catalase, urease, nitrate reduction and H 2 S production, but negative for phenylalanine deaminase, VP test, methyl red test and indole production. Hydrolyses Tweens (20, 40, 60 and 80), aesculin, gelatin and starch, but not casein. It utilizes maltose monohydrate, lactose monohydrate, D-glucose, sucrose,D-fructose, L-arabinose, starch, sodium pyruvate and L-aspartic acid, but not trehalose dihydrate, glycerol, mannitol, D-sorbitol, L-glutamic acid, L-valine, glycine,L-proline,L-serine, sodium oxalate, sodium formate dihydrate, sodium acetate anhydrous or disodium fumarate. Negative for lipase (C14), cystine arylamidase, β -glucuronidase, α -mannosidase and α -fucosidase; positive for alkaline phosphatase, leucine arylamidase, valine arylamidase, trypsin, α -chymotrypsin, acid phosphatase, naphthol- AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, β -galactosidase, α -glucosidase and N -acetyl- β -glucosaminidase; weakly positive for esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), α -galactosidase and β -glucosidase. The major fatty acids are C 16:1 ω 7 c, C 16:0, C 12:0 and C 18:1 ω7 c. The polar lipids include phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and one unidentified phospholipid. The G+C content of genomic DNA is 62.4%.

The type strain, FT80WT (=GDMCC 1.1678 T =KACC 21470 T), was isolated from a subtropical stream in PR China. The GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession numbers for the 16S rRNA gene sequence and the draft genome of strain FT80WT are MN548380 View Materials and WKJK00000000 , respectively.
