DESCRIPTION OF DUGANELLA FLAVIDA SP. NOV.

Duganella flavida (fla’vi.da. L. fem. adj. flavida yellowish, referring to the colour of colonies).

Cells are Gram-stain-negative, facultative anaerobic, rodshaped, motile with several flagella, 2.2–3.0 µm long and 0.7–0.8 µm wide. Colonies are pale yellow and convex. Growth occurs at 4–34 °C (optimum, 24 °C), pH 4.0–10.5 (optimum, pH 7.0–7.5) and 0–1.0% NaCl (w/v; optimum, 0%). Positive for oxidase, catalase and urease, but negative for nitrate reduction, H 2 S production, phenylalanine deaminase, VP test, methyl red test and indole production. It hydrolyses Tweens (20 and 60), gelatin, aesculin and starch, but not casein, Tween 40 or Tween 80. Utilizes maltose monohydrate, lactose monohydrate, D-glucose, sucrose, L-arabinose, starch and sodium pyruvate; weakly utilizes L-proline, but not trehalose dihydrate, D-fructose, glycerol, mannitol, D-sorbitol, L-glutamic acid, L-valine, glycine, L-serine,L-aspartic acid, sodium acetate anhydrous, sodium oxalate, sodium formate dihydrate or disodium fumarate. Negative for esterase (C4), lipase (C14), cystine arylamidase, α -chymotrypsin, α -galactosidase, β -glucuronidase, β -glucosidase, α -mannosidase and α -fucosidase; positive for alkaline phosphatase, esterase lipase (C8), leucine arylamidase, valine arylamidase, trypsin, acid phosphatase, naphthol- AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, β -galactosidase, α -glucosidase and N -acetyl- β -glucosaminidase. The major fatty acids are C 16:1 ω 7 c, C 16:0, C 12:0 and C 18:1 ω7 c. The polar lipids include phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and one unidentified phospholipid. The G+C content of genomic DNA is 60.8%.

The type strain, FT135WT (=GDMCC 1.1745 T =KACC 21659 T), was isolated from a subtropical stream in PR China. The GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession numbers for the 16S rRNA gene sequence and the draft genome of strain FT135WT are MN865820 View Materials and WWCN00000000 , respectively.
