Zoobank.org/ urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:8CBB8A2F-8937-4DDC-A8D4-E2748BB1245 ( Figs. 9–12 View Figs , 26 View Figs )

Type Locality. Venezuela, Monagas, S of Maturin, Morichal at road crossing, 9.2733° N, 62.93743333° W .

Diagnosis. This species is similar to D. clotho , D. atropos , and D. striola , but the median lobe in lateral aspect is distinctly and uniquely sinuate apically ( Fig. 9 View Figs ). Specimens have brown-orange elytra with a darker longitudinal region medially between the elytral suture and the elytral stria.

Description. Measurements: TL = 1.5–1.7 mm, GW = 1.0– 1.1 mm, PW = 0.8–0.9 mm, HW = 0.5–0.6 mm, EW = 0.2–0.3 mm, TL/GW = 1.5–1.6, HW/EW = 2.0–2.1. Coloration: Head and pronotum yellow-orange, posterior margin of pronotum medially narrowly brown. Elytron brown-orange, darker medially along sutural stria; surface not iridescent. Head appendages, legs, and ventral surfaces yellow to yellow-orange. Sculpture and structure: Head broad, short; anterior margin of clypeus finely margined with continuous narrow bead; surface of head shiny, very finely and sparsely punctate; eyes large (HW/EW = 2.0–2.1); antennae short, antennomeres III–X short, moderately broad, antennomere XI elongate, apically pointed. Pronotum short, broad, laterally distinctly curved with continuous narrow bead; surface shiny, very finely and sparsely punctate, without basal striae. Elytron broad, laterally broadly curved; surface shiny, very finely and sparsely punctate, without basal stria but with distinctive longitudinal sutural stria. Prosternum short, longitudinally compressed; prosternal process short, broad, without medial ventral tubercle, apically broadly triangular. Metaventrite broad and evenly smoothly convex medially, surface shiny, impunctate; metaventrite wings extremely slender. Metacoxa with medial portion short, less than half length of metaventrite medially, metacoxal lines subsinuate, divergent anteriorly; lateral portion of metacoxa very large, anteriorly strongly expanded; surface shiny, impunctate. Metatrochanter very large, subequal to length of ventral margin of metafemur; legs otherwise not noticeably modified. Abdominal surface shiny and smooth, very finely and sparsely punctate. Male genitalia: Median lobe in lateral aspect very slender throughout length, apically strongly sinuate and strongly narrowed to sharply pointed, dorsally directed apex ( Fig. 9 View Figs ); in ventral aspect, with large, broad basal region, abruptly constricted medially, apical portion with lateral margins curved, convergent to apex that is moderately deeply and narrowly emarginate, each ramus moderately slender and apically convergent and pointed ( Fig. 10 View Figs ). Lateral lobe in lateral aspect broad with margins subparallel to distinctly narrowed apical region that is extremely slender, bent dorsad, and apically sharply pointed ( Fig. 11 View Figs ); in ventral aspect, elongate, moderately broad, apically slightly expanded to truncate apex ( Fig. 12 View Figs ).

Etymology. This species is named lachesis (allotter), one of the three Greek fates.

Distribution. The species is known from lowland northern Venezuela through Guyana to central Suriname ( Fig. 26 View Figs ).

Habitat. Desmopachria lachesis was collected mainly in lentic marshes and pools but also slow portions of streams and morichal margins.
