west to Minnesota in the north, Nebraska, and Mississippi in the south. Collection habitats consisted of smaller, slow flowing streams, and from a puddle.

Distribution : Northern transcontinental in the USA. Iowa forms the southern border in the Midwest. Its habitat preference is lentic environments .

Black Hawk : Dry Run Cr., Cedar Falls, CTH, 8/29/11; Buchanan: Bear Cr., Brandon, TFW, 8/8/96; Jackson: South Big Mill Cr., Bellevue, CTH, 9/17/14; Poweshiek: Walnut Cr., Brooklyn, CTH, 7/28/09; Winneshiek: Trout R., Decorah, CTH, 7/18/07. Distribution: Northeastern USA, with Iowa forming part of the southwestern border. Habitat preferences are generally standing waters, although all collections recorded in Iowa occurred in small to midsized streams.

Iowa forms the southern border in the Midwest.Habitat preference for this species is depositional environments in lotic systems, generally small streams, springs, and stream fed ponds.

Agabus antennatus Leech. Hamilton : Little Wall Lake, PJS (National Museum of Natural History), 6/14/52. Distribution: Northwestern USA, with Iowa forming part of the southeastern border.

Agabus anthracinus Mannerheim. ( Larson et al. 2000) . Distribution: Northern transcontinental in the USA, with Iowa forming the southern border in the Midwest.

Agabus bifarius (Kirby) . Johnson: ( Wickham 1911). Distribution: northern transcontinental in the USA with Iowa forming part of the southern border in the Midwest.

8/2/06; Union: Sand Cr., Arispe, JML, 6/11/03. Distribution: Transcontinental in the USA. Its habitat preference is temporary ponds. However, collection sites include two streams, one intermittent, and one drainage ditch flowing through an agricultural field.

Agabus punctatus Melsheimer. Story : Ames ( Wickham 1911). Distribution: Eastern USA, with Iowa forming part of the western border.

Agabus subfuscatus Sharp. A specimen is in the National Museum of Natural History and has no data on the collection label beyond IA ( Larson et al. 2000). Distribution: Northeastern USA, extending west to Iowa.

Boreonectes griseostriatus (De Geer) . Hamilton: White Fox Cr., Webster City, CTH, 8/25/97; Johnson: ( Wickham 1911); Kossuth: Buffalo Cr., Michaelson, JML, 8/24/00. Distribution: Northern transcontinental in the USA, with Iowa forming the southern border in the Midwest. Its habitat preference is mineral substrate in disturbed, or erosive, environments.

Celina angustata Aubé. Winneshiek : Upper Iowa R. ( UV light), MJH, 6/18/12. Distribution: Primarily eastern USA, extending from Massachusetts in the north to Florida in the south and west to Texas in the south and Minnesota in the north. Iowa forms part of the western border of its distribution. New state record .

Celina hubbelli Young. Johnson : North Liberty ( UV light), MHB, 7/31/13. Distribution: Primarily eastern USA, extending west to Texas in the south and Iowa in the north. New state record .

East Branch of Iowa R., Goodell, TMM, 6/26/13; Johnson: Iowa City ( Wickham 1911); Linn: Behrens Pond (UV light), DAV, 3/6/04; Story: Ames ( Wickham 1911). Distribution: Northern transcontinental in the USA, with Iowa forming part of the southern border. This species’ habitat preference is shallow, often temporary ponds and marshes. The Iowa stream collection sites were small flowing streams with coarse substrate and sand mix.

Coelambus laccophilinus (LeConte) . Mitchell: Deer Cr., Carpenter, CTH, 8/25/08. Distribution: Northeastern USA. Iowa forms part of southwestern edge of the species’ distribution. Its habitat preference is small, but permanent, ponds, especially among emergent grasses and sedges on the margins. The Iowa collection site is a wooded, cobbled flowing stream, but has areas with slow velocity and aquatic vegetation. New state record .

Distribution: Nearly transcontinental in the USA, except for the extreme West. Its habitat preference tends to be standing bodies of water that are permanent in nature. Several of the Iowa collections were in small streams .

Coelambus sylvanus (Fall) . Linn: Cedar Rapids ( UV light), ELF, 9/4/99. Distribution: Northeastern USA, extending west to Minnesota in the north. Iowa forms part of the southwestern border of its distribution. Its habitat preference is marshy areas dominated by Typha L. ( Typhaceae ) and sedges. New state record .

Colymbetes exaratus LeConte. Hardin : Private Wetland, Buckeye, MTF, 8/14/07; Story: South Skunk R., Ames, CTH, 9/18/95. Distribution: Western USA, extending east to Illinois and Wisconsin. Habitat preference is among dense emergent vegetation at the margins of standing waters .

Eretes explicitus Miller. Fremont : Hamburg, Bailey, and Davis, 7/19/36 (Snow Entomology Museum). Distribution: Southcentral USA, extending from Arizona to Texas in the south and north to Iowa, which forms the northeastern border. New state record.

Graphoderus fascicollis (Harris) . Cerro Gordo: Union Hills West Wetland, Thornton, MTF, 7/20/ 07; Polk: Grimes, Unknown collector, 7/24/ 1919. Distribution: Northeastern USA, extending west to Montana in the north, although Iowa forms the southwestern border. Its habitat preference is emergent zones within permanent ponds, usually in areas with deciduous forests .

Graphoderus liberus (Say) . Dickinson: Freda Haffner Kettlehole, Milford, MTF, 7/24/07; Johnson: Ciha Fen, Sutliff, CTH, 4/17/17; Story: ( Wickham 1911); Winnebago: Private Wetland, Forest City, MTF, 7/18/07. Distribution: Primarily eastern USA, east of the Great

Plains, although there are Pacific Northwest records. Its habitat preference is boggy ponds and lakes.

Graphoderus manitobensis Wallis. Hancock: Private Wetland, Garner, MTF, 7/10/08. Distribution: Northcentral USA, with localized populations only collected from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa in the USA, thus Iowa forms the southern border. Its habitat preference is large sedge and cattail marshes/ponds.

Distribution: Northwestern USA, extending east to Wisconsin and Illinois. Its habitat preference is open ponds, both permanent and temporary .

Heterosternuta diversicornis (Sharp) . Page: East Nishnabotna R., Shenandoah, TMM, 9/18/08. Distribution: Southcentral USA, having been collected from Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Specimens have been collected from grassy vegetation overhanging streams in Texas to temporary ponds in Kansas. Iowa is on the northern edge of its distribution. New state record .

Heterosternuta pulchra (LeConte) . Clayton: Peck Cr., Osterdock, CTH, 7/26/11; Dubuque: Catfish Cr., Dubuque, CTH, 8/1/07; Fayette: Deep Cr., Wadena, CTH, 9/28/05; Jackson: Tetes Des Morts Cr., St. Donatus, CTH, 8/27/07; Winneshiek: Ten Mile Cr., Decorah, DPH, 8/23/05. Distribution: Eastern USA, exclusive of the bottom tier of southern states. Iowa is on the northwestern edge of its distribution with collections only from the northeastern quarter of the state. Its habitat preference is the mineral substrates on the margin of streams, as well as lake shores and quarry pools. New state record.
