Taxonomy. Original description: Silurus triostegus Heckel, 1843a: 1090 (100) [Tigris River, near Mosul, Iraq; syntypes: (4) NMW, SMF 2623 About SMF (1, dry)]. ― Synonyms: Coad and Holčík (2000: 139). ― Illustration: Heckel (1843: pl. 13, fig. 1) .

Distribution in Türkiye: Tigris and Euphrates River basins. ― Distribution in river basins: 21-Fırat-Dicle.― General distribution: Asia Minor and Middle East: Iraq, Iran, and Türkiye. ― Distribution in ecoregions: 441-Lower Tigris and Euphrates, 442-Upper Tigris and Euphrates. ― Habitat: This species inhabits large rivers, marshes, lakes, and reservoirs.
