Description. Female. Integument mostly black; mouthparts reddish brown except yellowish-brown distal area of last palpomeres; head mostly dark brown dorsally and laterally, gradually reddish-brown toward clypeus, and brown ventrally; genae, clypeus and labrum reddish-brown; mandibles mostly reddish brown, with dark inferior margin and black apex; antennae reddish brown; elytra with large, transverse pale yellow band slightly before middle, from epipleural margin to suture; coxae, trochanters and extreme base of femoral peduncle reddish brown; apex of femora dark reddish brown; protibiae dark reddish brown basally, gradually lighter toward apex; meso- and metatibiae dark brown on basal half, gradually reddish from on posterior half; tarsi somewhat yellowish brown.

Head. Frons, vertex, and area behind antennal insertion coarsely reticulate (reticules slightly less distinct on vertex); with short, sparse white pubescence, with a few long, erect white setae on vertex (pubescence slightly denser close to posterior area of antennal insertion). Area behind eyes coarsely rugose-punctate close to eye, somewhat striate close to prothorax; with a few minute white setae, and long, erect, sparse white setae interspersed on rugose-punctate area. Genae finely, moderately abundantly punctate except smooth apex; with a few short, yellow- ish-white setae, with a few long, erect white setae interspersed ventrally, except glabrous apex. Antennal tubercles with sculpturing and pubescence as on frons basally, smooth, glabrous on remaining surface. Postclypeus finely rugose-punctate on central area, smooth laterally, finely, sparsely punctate between these two areas; with a few short, erect yellowish setae on wide central area, glabrous laterally, and one long, erect white seta on each side of wide central area. Labrum with moderately long, sparse yellowish-white setae directed forward centrally, and long, erect pale yellow setae laterally. Mandibles with moderately long, erect, sparse pale yellow setae on outer surface. Last maxillary and labial palpomeres ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 22–30. 22–26 ) slightly securiform (apex at most twice width of base). Gulamentum smooth, glabrous about posterior third, coarsely transversely striate-punctate, with long, erect, sparse white setae on remaining surface. Upper eye lobes absent; in frontal view, distance between lower eye lobes nearly equal to length of scape (0.55 times distance between outer margins of eyes). Antennae 1.46 times elytral length (only holotype measured), reaching posterior ninth of elytra. Scape and pedicel with a few short, decumbent white setae dorsally and laterally; with long, erect, sparse white setae throughout, more abundant dorsally on scape. Antennomeres with short, decumbent white setae, somewhat abundant on outer surface, slightly sparser on remaining surface, except almost glabrous remaining surface of III–V; antennomeres III–V with long, erect, sparse white setae ventrally; antennomere III with short, erect, sparse white setae dorsally; antennomeres III–VII with long, erect, sparse white setae on apex; antennomeres VIII–X with moderately short, erect white setae on apex. Antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III (only holotype measured): scape = 0.75; pedicel = 0.19; IV = 0.54; V = 0.81; VI = 0.69; VII = 0.61; VIII = 0.52; IX = 0.50; X = 0.44; XI = 0.50.

Thorax. Prothorax longer than wide; anterior constriction narrow; anterior seventh of sides slightly divergent, wide central area widened, rounded, and area after posterior constriction slightly rounded. Pronotum in lateral view, distinctly elevated from posterior margin to after middle; coarsely longitudinally striate, with moderately coarse punctures interspersed; posterior quarter with white pubescence not obscuring integument, denser on area after posterior constriction, dense, transverse yellowish-white band on each side near apex (this band following toward middle of sides of prothorax); remaining surface with a few very short white setae; with long, erect, sparse white setae throughout. Sides of prothorax longitudinally striate superiorly, gradually smooth toward prosternum, except anterior and posterior areas, which are entirely nearly smooth; striate area with long, erect, sparse white setae (more yellowish-white depending on light intensity). Prosternum nearly smooth, with a few, both coarse and fine, punctures interspersed; with sparse white pubescence close to procoxal cavities, and long, erect, sparser white setae throughout, shorter anteriorly. Prosternal process with its narrowest area 0.2 times width of procoxal cavity. Mesoventrite with a few long, erect white setae on wide central area, with moderately dense silver pubescence laterally (whiter depending on light intensity). Mesanepisternum and mesepimeron with moderately dense silver pubescence (whiter depending on light intensity). Metanepisternum nearly glabrous on anterior 2/3, with dense silver pubescence on posterior third. Metaventrite with dense silver pubescence on triangular area on each side close to metacoxae; remaining surface with long, erect, sparse white setae. Scutellum with yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, except dense, golden pubescence on apex. Elytra. Basal gibbosity distinct, elevated, elongated, rounded at top; coarsely, very sparsely punctate on anterior 3/4, slightly finer, distinctly denser on posterior quarter; with long, erect white setae emerging from punctures (posterior quarter with setae distinctly denser due to the punctures more abundant). Legs. Femora distinctly pedunculate-clavate; with a few minute white setae, and long, erect, white setae throughout. Protibiae with yellowish-white pubescence, sparse dorsally and anterior 2/3 of sides, denser ventrally and posterior third of sides, with long, erect white setae interspersed. Meso- and metatibiae with yellowish-white bristle pubescence on posterior third of ventral surface, nearly absent on remaining surface; with long, erect, moderately abundant white setae.

Abdomen. Sides of ventrites with sparse yellowish-white pubescence, gradually denser toward V; central area of II–V with short, decumbent, sparse yellowish-white setae, more abundant on V; with long, erect, sparse white setae throughout on II–IV, only laterally on V. Apex of ventrite V rounded.

Dimensions (mm), females (holotype / paratypes). Total length, 5.10/5.00–6.10; prothoracic length, 1.30/1.20– 1.50; anterior prothoracic width, 0.80/0.80–0.90; posterior prothoracic width, 0.70/0.70–0.80; maximum prothoracic width, 0.95/0.90–1.10; humeral width, 1.10/1.05–1.30; elytral length, 3.15/3.15–3.70.

Type material. Holotype female from NICARAGUA, Nueva Segovia: Hwy Ocotal to Jalapa, between km 65–70, 15.V.2012, D. Heffern & E. van den Berghe col. ( TAMU, formerly DHCO) . Paratypes— 1 female, same data as holotype ( DHCO). NICARAGUA, Nueva Segovia: Hwy 29, about 2 km of Mozonte (13º66’N / 86º41’W; about 650 m; on white flowers), 1 female, 06.VI.2013, B. Raber, D. Heffern & E. van den Berghe col. ( MZSP).

Remarks. Pentanodes nicaraguensis sp. nov. differs from females of P. xanthocollis by the last segment of palpi slightly widened toward apex ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 22–30. 22–26 ) (noticeably widened in of T. xanthocollis ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 31–40 )). It differs from females of P. tropipennis by the antennomeres VII–VIII unicolorous (bicolorous in P. tropipennis ), antennomeres III and V proportionally longer ( Figs. 22–24 View FIGURES 22–30. 22–26 ) (proportionally shorter in P. tropipennis ( Figs. 45, 47, 48 View FIGURES 41–48 )), and by the elytra slightly convex from transverse white macula ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 22–30. 22–26 ) (strongly convex in P. tropipennis ( Fig. 48 View FIGURES 41–48 ). Pentanodes nicaraguensis sp. nov. differs from Pentanodes dietzii Schaeffer, 1904 by having only the antennomeres III–VI incrassate in males (III–VII in P. dietzii ), and the sculpturing of posterior area of the elytra not contrasting with remaining surface (distinctly contrasting in P. dietzii ).

As the male of Pentanodes nicaraguensis sp. nov. is unknown, we think that a key to species would not be useful.
