6. Salacia khasiana Purkayastha (1938: 277) View in CoL

Type:— INDIA, Assam, Khasi Hills, 3–4,000 feet, Umteswar Forests, 07 July 1935, Shri Ram Sarma 12033 [lectotype, ASSAM! (sh. no. 5710, Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 ); isolectotype, ASSAM! (sh. no. 5711), designated here] ; syntypes: ibid. 28 August 1936, Shri Ram Sarma 13541 ASSAM! (ASSAM 0000000046) ; ibid, 28 August 1936, Shri Ram Sarma 13542 CAL! ( CAL0000007485 About CAL ) .

For his Salacia khasiana, Purkayastha neither gave type nor collector, only stated locality. Four specimens collected by Shri Ram Sarma as Salacia species, all from the Umteswar Forests, Assam, in 1935 and 1936 fit the protologue and placed at ASSAM and CAL.

It has been found an annotation on Shri Ram Sarma 13541 (ASSAM 0000000046) as ‘lectotype’ signed by Rolla S. Rao, with no date or year mentioned, while on Shri Ram Sarma 12033 (sh. no. 5711) a label is pasted on the right lower part, in which the taxonomic note has been written by Rolla S. Rao on the 07 Dec.1967, but both are unpublished.

Among these specimens Shri Ram Sarma 12033 (sh. no. 5710 and 5711) placed at ASSAM are best matches with the protologue, therefore, they are designated here as, respectively, lectotype and isolectotype while remaining collections are syntypes.
