Description. Measurements (n=2): HL: 0.52–0.55; HW: 0.84–0.92; AL: 1.99 ( holotype); OL: 0.18–0.22; LT: 0.12–0.14; PL: 0.73–0.81; PW: 1.14–1.35; ESL: 1.78–1.82; EW: 1.66–1.75; AW: 1.33–1.62; MTbL: 1.02 ( holotype); MTrL ( holotype): 0.49 (MTrL 1–4: 0.32; MTrL 5: 0.17); BL: 4.40–4.60 ( holotype).
Habitus as in Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1–6 . Body reddish–brown, with slightly paler pronotum and lateral portions of elytra ( paratype); antennomeres 4–11 and legs brownish; mouthparts, antennomeres 1–3 and tarsi yellow–brown ( paratype with darker maxillary palpi). Head without microsculpture except of basal portions of supra-antennal elevations with fine transverse meshes and latero-apical parts between antennal insertions and apical margins of eyes with irregular longitudinal microreticulation; lateral parts of neck with dense isodiametric sculpture; abdominal tergites with fine isodiametric microsculpture, apical margins of tergites IV–VI with brickwall sculpture. Head with irregular and sparse punctation, sparser and finer frontally, denser and larger in middle and on infraorbital parts; neck with sparse and fine punctation; punctation of pronotum irregular, denser, larger and deeper than that in basal part of head, denser, coarser and deeper in medioapical part, sparser in lateral and finer and sparser in mediobasal portions ( paratype with finer pucntation in middle); punctation of elytra moderately large and deep, but slightly sparser than that on pronotum, denser around scutellum, larger and deeper on apical portions, each elytron with irregular and vague longitudinal rows of seven punctures; abdominal tergites with regular, dense and fine punctation.
Head with distinctly elevated middle and infraorbital portions, 1.6 times as broad as long, frontal portions behind strongly convex supra-antennal elevations depressed, deeper slightly in front of level of each anterior margin of eye; mediobasal portion with moderately narrow depression and strongly elevated borders; anteocellar foveae indistinct, narrow and relatively deep, each reaching level of posterior third of eye; postocular ridges acute, with interspaces between posterior margin of eyes and ridge about as long as two-three nearest ommatidia. Ocelli small, located slightly below level of postocular ridges. Antennomere 2 slightly less than twice as long as and as broad as basal antennomere, 3 distinctly longer and narrower than 2, 4–6 about as long as and slightly broader than 3, 7 slightly longer than 6, 8 distinctly shorter than 7, 9 slightly shorter and indistinctly broader than 8, 10 distinctly shorter than 8, apical antennomere about 1.4 times as long as and slightly broader than 10.
Pronotum with strongly convex middle and wide, strongly explanate lateral portions, each with deep and wide round spot in middle; pronotum widest in about middle, slightly more narrowed posteriad than anteriad; posterior angles obtuse; anterior angles widely rounded, strongly protruded anteriad; apical margin widely rounded and distinctly protruded anteriad, distinctly shorter than somewhat straight posterior margin; mediobasal third with two moderately deep semioval depressions, and medioapical part with elongate and moderately deep impression; each lateral edge with strong irregular crenulation.
Elytra strongly convex, more elevated in medioapical third, gradually broadened posteriad, slightly broader than long, distinctly more than twice as long as pronotum, reaching apical margin of abdominal tergite IV; each elytron with three strongly elevated longitudinal ridges starting from basal and reaching medioapical part; surface between punctures in mediobasal part with irregular longitudinal and transverse elevations between punctures; lateral edges with distinct crenulation, somewhat acute in latero-apical part, flattened in middle and reduced behind middle.
Metatarsi about twice as long as metatibia.
Abdomen strongly convex, with a pair of small oval tomentose spots in middle of abdominal tergite V.
Male unknown.
Female. Posterior margins of abdominal tergite VIII and sternite VIII truncate.
Comparative notes. Based on the coloration of the body, the shape of the pronotum with anterior angles strongly protruded anteriad and the punctation of the body, A. fortecarinatum sp. nov. is similar to Chinese A. nivale Shavrin & Smetana, 2017 ( Yunnan), from which it can be distinguished by the larger body and longer antennomeres 9–10, stronger sculpture of the more convex pronotum with more explanate lateral portions, and stronger sculpture of the elytra with more convex longitudinal elevations.
Distribution. Anthobium fortecarinatum sp. nov. is known from two localites in Lamjung Himal ( Gandaki, Nepal) ( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 ).
Bionomics. Specimens were collected at elevations from 3900 to 4100 m a.s.l. The detailed bionomical data are unknown.
Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin prefix forte - (strong), and the suffix - carinatus (presence of keel). It refers to the strong sculpture of the elytra.
