Etymology:—This species is named after Niels Foged. The new name is necessary because the name N. densestriatum is already occupied.

Observations:— Foged (1981) described valves of this taxon as 37 µm long by 9 µm wide with 18–20 striae in 10 µm. Specimens recently collected from a pond in Colorado ( Figs 60–65 View FIGURES 52–68 ) are 33–55 µm long by 9.3–11.1 µm wide with 17–18 striae in 10 µm. Neidium fogedii has a higher stria density and narrower central area than Neidium inconstans ( Figs 52–55 View FIGURES 52–68 ).

Distribution and Ecology: —To date this taxon has been collected only from the type locality and from a high elevation pond in Colorado. It appears to be a North American endemic. The type locality registered a pH of 7.3 and specific conductance of 27 µS/cm ( Foged 1981). The pond in Colorado had a pH of 7.2 and specific conductance of 102 µS/cm (M. Penton, unpublished data).
