Diagnosis.—The shell of the Orthoceratacea is straight or slightly curved and smooth or ornamented and has a circular cross section. The siphuncle is central or subcentral with ortho− suborthochoanitic and seldom secondarily cyrtochoanitic, septal necks. Endosiphuncular and cameral deposits may occur.
