Dohrniphora angolensis Beyer View in CoL
(Fig. 1)
Dohrniphora angolensis Beyer, 1959b: 35 View in CoL . (Female only).
The hitherto unknown male is described below.
Male
Frons similar to female, the breadth being almost 1.5 x the midline length, the antial and anterolateral bristles in an almost straight transverse row and almost equidistant. The median row of bristles with preocellars a little further apart than either is from a mediolateral. Postpedicel about 1.2 x as long as broad, light brown with dense pubescence which is a little coarser near base of arista. Second segment of palp paler than postpedicel, being more orange than brown, and with five apical bristles and numerous hairs extending to base. Labrum and labella narrow. Thorax orange tinged brown, being darkest on top. Anterior scutellars only as long as hairs at rear of scutum but a little more robust, but posterior pair of bristles at least twice as long. Abdominal tergites 15 brown in rear two thirds but yellow laterally and on anterior two thirds. T6 more extensively yellow, with brown restricted to a posteromedian patch. Hypopygium with orange yellow epandrium anterodorsally, otherwise largely brown but with a straw yellow anal tube. Venter murky straw yellow with hairs on segments 35. Legs a murky yellowish orange apart from brown mid coxae and dorsal rims of hind femora. Base of hind femur as Fig. 1. Otherwise legs similar to female. The dorsal hair palisade of mid tibia only just overreaches basal pair of long bristles. Wing similar to female, but a trifle smaller with the length being about 2.8 mm. Costal index 0.50.6. Costal ratios about 8: 3: 1. Costal cilia 0.100.11 mm long. Haltere yellowish brown with a dark patch around pair of hairs at base of knob.
1. Dohrniphora angolensis male, face of base of hind femur. Scale bar
0.1 mm.
