Dohrniphora harteni View in CoL sp. nov.
(Fig. 12)
The name refers to the collector of the holotype (see below).
Male
Frons brown with midline length and breadth subequal, with 5080 hairs and microsetae dense but minute. Antials closer to ALs than to each other and level with or slightly higher or lower on frons than latter. POs and MLs almost equally spaced, but latter distinctly lower on frons. Postpedicels light brown, subglobose, but tapered to apex; but length is subequal to greatest breadth. Palps similar to D. gouteuxi . Likewise proboscis. Thorax brown but tending to yellow on lower part of mesopleuron and on sternopleuron and hypopleuron. Scutellum with an anterior pair of small hairs and a posterior pair of bristles. Abdominal tergites mainly brown but T2 and T6 are liable to be partly yellow, the former mainly on anterior third and T6 on anterior half or more. All hairs sparse and minute. Venter pale straw yellow with small hairs below on segments 35 and a pair of stronger and 24 weaker bristles at rear of 5. Hypopygium essentially brown with a straw yellow anal tube. Apart from the brown mid coxae and dorsal edge of hind femur, the legs are straw yellow. Front tibia with 35 (usually 4) small dorsal spines. Dorsal hair palisade of mid tibia extends from 0.40.6 of length. Base of hind femur as Fig. 12. Without isolated bristles in upper three quarters of hind tibia. Wing 1.51.6 mm long. Costal index 0.450.50. Costal ratios 7.58.5: 1.82.3: 1. Costal cilia 0.040.05 mm long. Hair at base of vein 3 subequal to costal cilia of section 1, but a little finer. Veins greyish brown, but 7 very pale. Membrane lightly tinged grey. Haltere knob with distal two thirds straw yellow.
Female
As male, but with palps and proboscis similar to D. cornuta . Indeed the females of these two species are extremely alike apart from the longer dorsal hair palisade on the mid tibia and the abdominal venter with hairs on ventral face, in front of bristlelike hairs at rear margins, reduced to minute hairs on anterior two thirds of segments 4 and 5. Material
HOLOTYPE male, Yem en, Lahj, April 2000, A. van Harten (4385) ( CUMZ – 2137). PARATYPES, 3 males, 3 females, as holotype except dates are November 1999 (4290), May 2000 (4637) and 2 males, 12 km N. W. Manakhah, 3 July2 August 2001 (5987) ( CUMZ – 2136, 2148, 2156, 2158).
