Triatoma Laporte 1832 , p. 11; 1833, p. 77; Type species: Cimex rubrofasciatus DeGeer 1773 .

Comments. There are 80 known species of Triatoma widely distributed in the Americas from the middle of the United States of America to Argentina. Its members occupy a broad variety of ecotopes. In Mexico 20 species have been recorded ( Galvão et al. 2003), and the following species are reported in Veracruz.
