Material examined: Spain ( Menorca): Ferrerias, Barr. De Trabeluja, 8. X.1993, 1 ɗ, 2Ψ, H. de Jong leg., J. Starý det. Tunisia: Sousse, 16.–27. XII.1972, 1 Ψ, M.C. & G. Kruseman leg., J. Starý det.

Distribution: The only cosmopolitan crane fly, widespread in all zoogeographical regions. First record for the Balearics ( Menorca) and Tunisia.

Note: The species is conceived here as monotypic. The other two subspecies are Australian/Oceanian and of uncertain status.
