Description

Shell conical to conical­pupoid, whorls convex to slightly convex anteriorly, brownreddish, cream, orange, lustrous to opaque. Protoconch paucispiral, dome­shaped. Surface with irregular pits. Teleoconch with four whorls, smooth, with deep pits. Suture impressed. Base rounded. Aperture oval to oval­subcircular, occasionally separated from peripheral region of teleoconch by slight depression. Lip thin. Umbilicus absent.

Etymology

Derived from Ketos, a mythical creature ridden by nymphs. A Ketos had a cetacean tail, a snake’s body and a wolf’s head, i.e., possessed an unusual combination of characters present in other animals, like our new genus.
