5. Conicera petalina sp. nov. ( Figs. 5A–E View FIGURE 5 , 29D View FIGURES 29 )

Description. Male. Body length 1.5 mm. Frons dark brown, broader than high. Supra-antennal setae and lower fronto-orbital setae absent. Lower interfrontal setae shorter than upper interfrontal setae and the distance between each other shorter than that between upper interfrontal setae. First flagellomere dark brown, 0.22 mm long, with an aspect ratio of 2.1:1; arista 0.30 mm long, 1.38 times as long as that of first flagellomere. Palpus brown, with 5 short setae apically.

Thorax dark brown. Legs brown, except fore leg light brown. Fore tibia with 13 small near-dorsal setulae, the uppermost being longer than the rest. Fore tarsus with posterodorsal setal palisade on all five tarsomeres. Mid femur without sense-organ. Wing ( Fig. 29D View FIGURES 29 ) length 1.44 mm. Costal index 0.39, costal ratio 2.31:1, costal setulae length 0.047 –0.050 mm. Rs without basisetula. Veins light brown, except A 1 +CuA 2 whitish gray. Membrane grayish brown. Halter brown.

Abdominal tergites dark brown. Terminalia ( Fig. 5A View FIGURE 5 ) dark brown. Left and right surstyli ( Figs. 5B–E View FIGURE 5 ) with concave apical edge, petaloid. Left surstylus with 3 dark brown pointed processes, of which two consisted of inner teeth. Right surstylus with 4 pointed processes, of which two consisted of inner teeth.

Female. Unknown.

Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin word petalinu s (petal-shaped), indicating the morphological characters of left and right surstyli.

Specimens examined. Holotype, ♂, Sichuan, Kangding, Mt. Gongga (1500m), 2-Aug-2004, Guangchun Liu.

Distribution. China (Sichuan).

Remarks. The petal-like surstylus easily distinguishes C. petalina sp. nov. from any other described species of the genus. In the key of Disney (1990), the species runs to couplet 8, to C. torautensis Disney,1990 , it differs from the latter by petal-like surstylus and absence of supra-antennal setae.
