Taxonomy. Eothenomys proditor Hinton, 1923 View in CoL , “Lichiang Range [= Yulongxuen], N.W. Yunnan, [ China].”
Eothenomys proditor is in the subgenus Anteliomys . It is closely related to E. olitor . Monotypic.
Distribution. Mountains on the border between Sichuan and Yunnan, S China. View Figure
Descriptive notes. Head-body 105-115 mm, tail 26-34 mm; weight 24-30 g. Size declines with altitude. The Yulongxuen Red-backed Vole is moderately sized, with tail shorter than ¢.33% of head-body length. Fur is sleek, dark brown on back and dull gray below. Feet and tail are blackish brown. Skull is heavy, with wide interorbital region. Molar pattern is similar to the one in the Black-eared Red-backed Vole (FE. olitor ), except for more simple enamel pattern of M” that has only two salient angles on inner side.
Habitat. Open rocky alpine meadows at elevations of 2700-4200 m.

Breeding. Reproduction occurs from spring to autumn.
