Taxonomy. Calomys cerqueirai Bonvicino, J. A. Oliveira & Gentile, 2010 View in CoL , margins of Bu-raco do Cachorro stream, near to Capitao Andrade, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Descriptive notes. Head-body 86-112 mm, tail 75-85 mm, ear 16-18 mm, hindfoot 21-22 mm; weight 25-35 g. Cerqueira’s Vesper Mouse is medium-sized, with tail 75-87% of head-body length, moderately long and narrow hindfeet, and small rounded pinnae (16-18% of head-body length). Dorsal pelage is soft, dense, and cinnamon-brown overall; head is paler than dorsum; rostrum is covered with yellow to ocherous tawny hair; sides of body are slightly paler than dorsum due to reduction in black guard hairs; and ventral pelage is well-delineated from sides, covered with whitish hairs with gray bases. Pinnae are internally covered by entirely orange hairs or hairs with long orange bands and externally by sparse brownish hairs; and post-auricular patch of completely white hairs is present. Forefeet and hindfeet are covered dorsally with entirely white hairs. Tail is sharply bicolored, with white hair ventrally and dark hair dorsally. Mammae count of adult females is unknown. Diploid numberis 2n = 36 and 38.
