Taxonomy. Oryzomys lamia Thomas, 1901 View in CoL , “Rio Jordao, in the district of Araguary, S.W. Minas Geraes [= Gerais],” Brazil.
This species is monotypic.
Distribution. Goias and W Minas Gerais states, WC Brazil. View Figure
Descriptive notes. Head-body 141-161 mm, tail 131-160 mm, hindfoot 34-36 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. Dorsum of the Bufty-sided Rice Rat is bright ocherous buff, and venter is white. Tail is nearly naked, equal to or shorter than head-body length, and bicolored. Skull is long and robust. Incisors are opisthodont, and molars are pentalophodont. Chromosomal complement is 2n = 58, FN = 82.
Habitat. Gallery and semideciduous forests and more open cerrado.

Movements, Home range and Social organization. No information.
Status and Conservation. Classified as Endangered on The IUCN Red List. Although limited natural history insight exits,this classification isjustified because of population declines greater than 50% over the last decade. The Buffy-sided Rice Rat is known from only three locations.
