Description. FEMALE (holotype, Figs. 8 View FIGURE 8 and 9 View FIGURE 9 ). Body, including gnathosoma, 355 long (345–360 in 2 paratypes) and 375 wide (360–380). Gnathosoma about 80 long and 100 wide. Palps about 45 long and 50 wide. Palpalae dF 17 long (17–18), thickened and bearing 3–4 subequal pectinations, dG 15 long (15–16), with large anteriorly directed projection located in median part and 2 small subapical projections; palpalae l”G 7 long (7–8), slightly thickened, rod-like with few small pectinations. Setae vF about 45 long, smooth. Subcapitulum ventrally without lateral folds. Peritrematal branch about 57 long. Idiosoma 320 long (310–325). Dorsal shield about 110 long and 290 wide. Anterior and posterior margin of dorsal shield widely concave. Ventral surface of idiosoma with distinct transverse striations, without scales or verrucosities. Setae vi, ve, si, se, and c2 all slightly serrate, 60–80 long; h2 smooth, about 200 long, setae h1 about 55 long. Setae 3a present. Setae d on femora-genua I and II absent (segment with 1 seta). Legs III and IV with 3–4 and 2–3 setae, respectively.
MALE. Unknown.
Type material examined. Holotype female ( OSAL 0083893) and 2 female paratypes ( OSAL 0083855), from Myiarchus crinitus (Linnaeus) ( Passeriformes : Tyrannidae ) [in skin], North America, no other data.
Holotype deposition. OSAL.
Etymology. This species is dedicated to the late acarologist W.W. Moss ( USA), who gathered the large collection of the family Harpirhynchidae currently deposited at OSAL.
