Corvoheteromeyenia sanidastosclera Pinheiro, Silva & Calheira, 2015

Comparative material examined. UFPEPOR 1105, 1113, 1116, 1132, MNHN.DCL 4110, coll. C. Silva, 06.iv.2010, São Francisco Basin, Bahia State, Brazil, 09°22’30’’S 38°13’58’W.

Emended diagnosis. Sponge encrusting to slightly massive, with megascleres that are exclusively microspined oxeas; acanthoxea microscleres are absent; pseudobirotule microscleres occur in two distinct types; gemmuloscleres present as sanidasters inserted radially in the gemmules (modified from Pinheiro et al. 2015 as indicated by underscore).

Remarks. Corvoheteromeyenia sanidastosclera was recently described by Pinheiro et al. (2015) that stated the presence of sanidaster gemmuloscleres as the distinct character of the species. Thus they made an emended diagnosis of the genus to include this type of gemmulosclere. This species does not have acanthoxea microscleres, therefore it can be considered closer to C. australis than to C. heterosclera . The absence of acanthoxeas is an additional distinctive character between C. sanidastosclera and C. heterosclera .
