Falsocaenia apicicornis ( Pic, 1922) comb. n.

( Figs 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 , 23 View FIGURES 16 – 30 , 35 View FIGURES 31 – 41 , 51–53 View FIGURES 42 – 53 , 72 View FIGURES 69 – 76 )

Idiopteron (Falsocaenia) apicicorne Pic, 1922: 25 .

Type material. Holotype, female, ‘ Peru’, without other data ( MNHN).

Other material. Male, ‘ Bolivia, Germain leg. (det. Kleine)‘ ( MNHN).

Diagnosis. Close to F. incognitus , from which it differs in yellow transverse stripe in ½–2/3 of elytral length, and in having black stripe in basal 1/5–1/2 of elytra. It differs from F. g r i s e a in elytra slightly widened posteriorly, small yellow humeral spots, in slender male genitalia with phallus 4x longer than parameres width, and circular distal enlargement.

Redescription. Whole body dark brown to black, only terminal antennomere, maxillary palpomere 1 and basal portion of 2, sides of pronotum, humeral stripes, transverse median stripe on elytra, and hind trochanters yellow ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Eyes medium-sized, distance between eyes 1.1x (male)–1.3x (female) longer than maximal eye diameter. Antennae with antennomere 3 as long as 4. Pronotum 1.6x (male)–1.8x (female, fig. 23) wider than long. Elytra slender, 3.5x (male)–3.1x (female) longer than wide in humeral portion, widest in distal 2/5, this width 1.5x longer than humeral width. Male genitalia ( Fig. 51–53 View FIGURES 42 – 53 ) slender, phallus 4x longer than parameres maximal width, distal enlargement of phallus circular. Female genitalia broad ( Fig. 72 View FIGURES 69 – 76 ), each coxite with a slender mediobasal projection, valvifers straight basally. Body length: 6.5–6.8 mm, humeral width: 1.6–1.9 mm.

Remark. Holotype with left antennomeres 8–11 and right antennomeres 3–11 missing.

Comment. Pic (1922) described this species as Idiopteron (Falsocaenia) apicicorne . Kleine (1933) overlook this species, and therefore, its status was kept although he transferred many Falsocaenia to Idiopteron s. str.. Bocakova (2003) raised Falsocaenia to generic status, and consequently, Falsocaenia apicicorne ( Pic, 1922) comb. n. is proposed here.
