Leucophenga varinervis Duda, 1923 View in CoL

( Figs. 2F View FIGURE 2 , 6A–C View FIGURE 6 , 9I, 9J View FIGURE 9 , 14A, 14B View FIGURE 14 , 22 View FIGURE 22 )

Leucophenga varinervis Duda, 1923: 31 View in CoL ; 1924: 189; Lin & Wheeler, 1972: 254.

Diagnosis. This species strongly resembles L. spinifera in the colour patterns of abdominal tergites in both male ( Fig. 9G, I View FIGURE 9 ) and female ( Fig. 9H, J View FIGURE 9 ), and the shape of paramere ( Figs. 21C View FIGURE 21 , 22C View FIGURE 22 ), but can be distinguished from the latter in having the postocellar setae minute ( Fig. 6A View FIGURE 6 ); aedeagus laterally with a long, acute, wave-shaped process ( Fig. 22D View FIGURE 22 ).

Description. Ocellar triangle dark brown, with ca. 2 setae above ocellar setae. Frons brownish yellow to brownish ( Fig. 6A View FIGURE 6 ). Pedicel brownish yellow; first flagellomere yellow ( Fig. 6A View FIGURE 6 ). Clypeus entirely brownish. Palpus brownish yellow to brownish ( Fig. 6A View FIGURE 6 ). Mesonotum brownish yellow anteromedially, brown to dark brown posteromedially and laterally ( Fig. 6B View FIGURE 6 ). Postpronotal lobe yellow ( Fig. 6C View FIGURE 6 ). Acrostichal setulae in ca. 14–16 irregular rows ( Fig. 6B View FIGURE 6 ). Scutellum brownish yellow to dark brown, black laterally, yellow at tip or around apical scutellar setae ( Fig. 6B View FIGURE 6 ). Pleura with a brown, longitudinal stripe above ( Fig. 6C View FIGURE 6 ). Katepisternum and mesopleuron mostly yellow ( Fig. 6C View FIGURE 6 ). Wing ( Fig. 2F View FIGURE 2 ): slightly clouded; costal vein between R 2+3 and R 4+5 distally with ca. 5–7 peg-like spinules on ventral surface; R 4+5 and M 1 slightly divergent distally; halter mostly yellowish, with a brown to dark brown patch at knob ( Fig. 6B View FIGURE 6 ). Mid and hindlegs brownish on femur in some specimens ( Fig. 6B, C View FIGURE 6 ). Abdominal tergites dark brown to black, 2nd tergite yellow to brownish medially and laterally, 3rd tergite mostly yellow to brownish (especially in the posterior margin) except for lateral region, setigerous laterally and on posterior margin in males ( Fig. 9I View FIGURE 9 ), yellow anteriorly in females ( Fig. 9J View FIGURE 9 ), 4th tergite yellow anteriorly. Male terminalia: Epandrium lacking pubescence, with ca. 11 setae near posterior and ventral margins per side ( Fig. 22A View FIGURE 22 ). Cercus lacking pubescence ( Fig. 22A View FIGURE 22 ). Surstylus pubescent ( Fig. 22A View FIGURE 22 ). Hypandrium with 1 sensillum ( Fig. 22B View FIGURE 22 ). Paramere narrow basally, with ca. 7 sensilla distally ( Fig. 22C View FIGURE 22 ).
