Notes. The specific epithet of Thaumalea thornburghae Vaillant (1959: 35) was originally published as thornburghi but subsequent authors (e.g., Stone 1964: Stone 1965: Peterson et al. 1989: Arnaud & Boussy 1994: Sinclair 1996) used the spelling thornburghae [named after Vaillant’s aunt Miss Laura Thornburgh who assisted his studies; reprint received by PHA from Vaillant had been annotated thornburghae ]. The spelling thornburghae is an incorrect subsequent spelling according to Article 33.3 of the Code (ICZN 1999) but because it is in prevailing usage and is attributed to Vaillant (1959), it is deemed to be the correct original spelling in compliance with Article 33.3.1.

The holotype of A. thornburghae (erronously designated as lectotype by Sinclair (1996)) was borrowed by PHA from F. Vaillant and presumably forwarded to MNHN. Unfortunately, the whereabouts of the holotype could not be confirmed and was not found among the paratypes deposited in MZLS .
