Basterotia borbonica ( Deshayes, 1863) View in CoL

Habitat. Attached by a weak byssus on the undersides of rocks and stones embedded in sand at mid-littoral levels. Associated with an echiurid.

Distribution. Anse aux Anglais, Pointe Coton, Anse Tasman, Ile Hermitage.

Remarks. Although the Sportellidae have been thought to be commensal this is the first confirmation of an association.

Range. Indian Ocean [R].

Figured specimen. 3.4 mm, NMW.Z.2000.086.00032.
