Limnophora exigua Wiedemann, 1830: 658 .

Lectotype female in ZMUC (designated by Pont 1997: 95). Holotype female of Limnophora macrophthalma Emden (1951: 400) (junior synonym of L. exigua ) seen; in good condition.

Diagnosis. Small species (2.5–3.3 mm); general colour brown; postpronotum and notopleuron grey pollinose, scutum with “ Anthomyia -pattern”, grey pollinose presuturally, close to suture and above scutellum; scutellum entirely brown; frons brown; face and parafacial silver pollinose; antenna, arista and palpus brown; haltere yellow; legs brown; male dichoptic; 2 pairs of orbital setae directed backwards and outwards, the upper one longer; frontal triangle long, reaching lunule; arista with short hairs; postsutural dorsocentrals 4, the first 2 short; scutellum with long basal and apical pairs of setae and with numerous setulae on disc; lower katepisternal weak, inserted closer to the long posterior one; lower calypter about twice the length of the upper one; fore tibia without a submedian seta; mid femur with 2 preapical setae, one posterior and one posterodorsal; mid tibia with 2 posterior setae; sternite 1 bare; sternite 5 ( Fig. 21 ).

Terminalia. Cercal plate and surstylus as in Figs 22–23 . Aedeagal complex as in Fig. 24 . Notes. One male dissected and illustrated.
