Additional M. ornata collection information from museum records and literature
While compiling information on M. ornata , we searched the Auckland Institute and War Memorial Museum ( AMNZ), New Zealand Arthropod Collection ( NZAC), the Lincoln University Insect Collection ( LUNZ), the Otago Museum , the Canterbury Museum , and relevant literature for information on additional collection sites to facilitate others’ efforts to build on the information we developed. Four specimens and two literature reference representing six additional collecting sites were found. Data for these collections are listed below .

Crowson/ scraping moss, lichen and bark off trunks of living Nothofagus trees at about 2,900 ft (900 m)/1 larval specimen ( Crowson 1964).
