Andesipolis cacildis Shimbori sp. n.
( Figs 20 View FIGURES 14 – 25 , 85–87)
Female. Body length 2.2–2.4 mm; fore wing length 2.2–2.5 mm.
Head. Smooth and polished, with scattered setae; 1.24–1.35x wider than mesoscutum. Face 1.4–1.6x broader than long, smooth and polished. Clypeus 2.6–2.8x broader than long. Malar space 0.43–0.52x eye height in frontal view. In lateral view, eyes 1.2–1.4x longer than temple. Maximum width of lateral ocellus 0.37–0.47x ocell-ocular distance. Antenna about as long as fore wing, 22–23 segmented; first flagellomere 4.7–5.1x longer than wide.
Mesosoma . 1.69–1.78x longer than high. Mesonotum 1.22–1.35x longer than width of mesoscutum. Pronotum dorsally with crenulate sulcus and distinct mid-longitudinal carina anteriorly, posteriorly smooth with arched carina enclosing a crescent moon shaped area; about 0.8x longer than vertex, the posterior region slightly longer than anterior region; anterior region in distinct lower level as compared with posterior region; laterally smooth and polished, pronotal groove distinct and crenulate only anteriorly, few scattered setae along posterior margin and ventrally. Mesonotum smooth and polished; mesoscutum with scattered setae medially and anteriorly, scutellar sulcus bare, scutellum mostly bare, with scattered setae mostly at posterior apex; notauli very weak to virtually absent dorsally, shallow and smooth; mid pit short and narrow, 0.4–0.5x the length of mesoscutum; scutellum 1.3– 1.4x longer than wide, smooth and polished; scutellar sulcus 0.27–0.35x longer than wide, with one median carina; mesoscutellar trough costate proximally, smooth distally. Metanotum without median carina; laterally weakly rugose with scattered setae. Mesopleuron mostly bare, with few scattered setae concentrated on anterior corner and ventrally; sternaulus crenulate posteriorly, faintly extending anteriorly toward epicnemial carina; anterior corner of mesopleuron smooth. Epicnemial carina present ventrally, incomplete. Metapleuron mostly smooth but ventrally rugose, with long and scattered setae. Propodeum mostly smooth with fine and irregular strigate surface (microsculpturing not visible under light microscope, however the reflection is very distinct from a polished surface), some rugosity inside areola anteriorly; median carina short, bifurcated basally, and enclosing a roughly triangular areola with distinct cross-bridge and two pairs of transverse lateral carinae ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 14 – 25 ). Hind coxa 1.81– 1.99x longer than wide, 0.83–0.96x as long as metasomal TI. Hind basitarsus about 0.38–0.43x as long as hind tibia. Hind tarsal claws without basal lobe.
Wings. Fore wing. Stigma 3.2–3.5x longer than broad; vein r arising from middle of stigma. Vein r 0.43–0.47x longer than vein 3RSa. Vein 2RS straight, 0.75–0.81x longer than 3RSa. Vein 3 RSa 0.50–0.54 x 3 RSb and 1.8–2.0x as long as vein r-m. Vein 1 Cub 2.0–2.4x vein 1CUa. Vein (RS+M)b distinct, not pigmented. Vein 1-1AC 0.24– 0.26x longer than vein 2-1 A. Hind wing. Vein M +CU 1.62–1.78x longer than 1M. Vein cu-a 0.41–0.56x as long as 1M. Vein r-m 0.42–0.56x as long as 1M.
Metasoma. TI 1.37–1.47x as long as apical width; rugose to areolate-rugose with fine and irregular strigate surface, laterally smooth; dorsal carinae short, enclosing an irregular basal area from which arises a short midlongitudinal ridge; dorsope deep and large. Metasoma beyond petiole weakly sclerotized; TII about 1.65–1.80x longer than TIII. Ovipositor short and straight, 0.37–0.59x as long as hind tibia; ovipositor sheaths 0.83–0.93x longer than ovipositor.
Color. Dark brown. Antenna brown, scapus and pedicel yellowish to honey yellow, first flagellomere frequently honey yellow to light brown at least basally. Mandibles yellowish with brown teeth; palpi whitish. Pronotum yellowish to honey yellow dorsally and ventrally and brown posteriorly. Propleuron yellowish to honey yellow. Mesopleuron sometimes lighter ventrally. Legs yellow, fore and mid fifth tarsomeres, apical 1/3 of hind tibia and hind tarsi brown.
Male. Similar to female. Body length 2 mm; antenna with 2.3 mm and 23 segments; fore wing length 2.1 mm. Metasoma slender, TI 1.85x longer than apical width.
Biology. Unknown
Comments. This species closely resembles A. nothofagus sp. n. For comparison between these species see comments under A. nothofagus sp. n.
Diagnosis. Body dark brown, but first flagellomere yellow to light brown (first flagellomere dark brown in A. brasiliensis sp. n. and A. monteiroi sp. n.); propodeum and TI with mat background (finely strigate microsculpturing); ovipositor short; most specimens with very short longitudinal carinae on propodeum, which forks just basally to form a triangular anterior areola; notauli and mid pit on mesoscutum less developed as compared with most known species; petiole with distinct basal area enclosed by carinae, and short mid-longitudinal carina.
Distribution. Known only from type locality at Itatiaia National Park, Brazil, at 2,206 m of elevation.
Etymology. The species name is an arbitrary combination of letters.
