Gobius magniloquus Day, 1876: 296 (Madras, India).
A possible syntype, ZSIC 159, was reported as lost according to the Zoological Survey of India type register, in a letter to HKL from Barman (19 August 1991). Day’s species may have been a Pseudogobius View in CoL , Mugilogobius View in CoL or Redigobius (Larson 2001) View in CoL .
