Type :— BRAZIL. “Native of Brazil, Sello s.n ” (lectotype designated here: P barcode P00798381 [image!]); isolectotypes: F barcode V0057681F [image!], HAL barcode HAL0120725 [image!], K barcode K000555409 [image!], W-0028642 [image!]). Lectotype available at: http://mediaphoto.mnhn.fr/media/1443873406453CVpooE04zak7GJMq

Accepted name. Senna multijuga subsp. lindleyana (Gardner) H.S. Irwin & Barneby (1982: 498) .

Notes. Cassia selloi was described based on the collection Sellow s.n. from Brazil, without any indication of the herbarium where the type was deposited. Irwin & Barneby (1982), in their revision of Senna , suggested a specimen from Lambert’s personal herbarium as the holotype of C. selloi . According to Miller (1970), George Don described several new species from the Lambert Herbarium, and after Lambert’s death, the collection was divided into approximately 317 lots, which are now deposited in at least 18 different institutions in Europe and the United States.

Our research found six specimens referring to the collection Sellow s.n from Brazil deposited in different herbaria: Herbarium of Field Museum (F, barcodes V0057681F and V0093913F), Herbarium Martin-Luther-Universität (HAL, barcode HAL0120725), Herbarium of the Royal Botanic Gardens of Kew (K, barcode K000555409), Herbarium of Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (P, barcode P00798381), and Wien Herbarium (W-0028642). We are designating here the specimen deposited at P under barcode P00798381 as the lectotype, as it is well preserved with leaves and flowers (characters used in the protologue), and has label annotations that coincide with those of the original description.
