Accepted name. Senna multijuga subsp. lindleyana (Gardner) H.S. Irwin & Barneby, (1982: 497) .

Notes. Cassia lindleyana was described based on the collection Gardner 367 from Brazil, but the only information contained in the original description for typification purposes is plants from the “Organ Mountains, hab. in woods, common”. Bentham (1870: 123) considered C. lindleyana a variety of C. multijuga based on the collection Gardner 367. Irwin & Barneby (1982: 498) changed the status of C. multijuga var. lindleyana to the subspecies level, and mistakenly indicated the specimen of the collection Gardner 367 as the holotype, under barcode K000555411, deposited at the Kew Herbarium (K). The species protologue, however, does not indicate where the holotype was deposited, and there is no indication that the specimen suggested by those authors was the material used by Gardner.

We found nine specimens from the collection Gardner 367 from Brazil, and designate here the specimen deposited at K, under barcode K000555411 as the lectotype as it is well preserved, and also because (according to Thiers 2021) the Kew Herbarium houses Gardner’s main collections.
