Type locality. “ Ternataeis ” (= Ternate island, Indonesia; in error) .

Distribution. Known from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela ( Plt. 293A View Plate 293 ). In Brazil, widespread in Amazonia and Pantanal, with marginal records in the Cerrado ( Plt. 293A View Plate 293 ), at low elevations ( Plt. 293B View Plate 293 ). Observed in the field in wetlands and seasonally flooded areas ( Strüssmann and Sazima, 1993; Giraudo and Scrocchi, 2002; FranÇa et al., 2006; Scartozzoni et al., 2010).
