Type locality. “ Amazonia.” According to Costa et al. (2013) the holotype was collected in the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro or Espírito Santo,based on the itinerary of the collector, G.W. Freyreiss, in Brazil .

Distribution. Known from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela, mostly in forested regions ( Plt. 135A View Plate 135 ). In Brazil, widespread in Amazonia and Atlantic Forest, forming a disjunct distribution ( Plt. 135A View Plate 135 ), mostly at low elevations ( Plt. 135B View Plate 135 ). Previous maps and taxonomy in Costa et al. (2013). Observed in the field in forest and disturbed areas ( Cunha and Nascimento, 1993; Martins and Oliveira, 1998; Bernarde and Abe, 2006).
